Professional Bio

Edward G. Anderson Jr. is the Betty and Glenn Mortimer Centennial Professor of Business at the University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business. His research focuses on supply chain innovation, the economics of information systems design, and distributed product development. His current work examines the structure of business-to-business platforms, the trade-offs associated with AI tool adoption in software development, and the role of government policy in strengthening supply chain resilience. He has studied a wide range of industries, including smartphones, automotive manufacturing, electronics, and healthcare, as well as emerging domains such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0.

He frequently appears in major media outlets, including Fox News, the BBC, the Associated Press, Yahoo, and Fortune, and has testified as an expert witness on supply chain disruption before the Texas Senate. He is a Fellow of the Production and Operations Management Society and a recipient of the Jay W. Forrester Research Award. He has published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles and has served as an editor for leading academic journals in supply chain management, information systems, and public policy. In 2022, he was a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is currently President-Elect of the Industry Studies Association.

He is a coauthor of Operations Management for Dummies, which has earned a 4.5-star rating on Amazon based on more than 400 reviews. Prior to entering academia, he worked as a product design engineer in the automotive industry. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
